Bruno Fernandes will come up against his Portuguese international teammate Joao Felix when Atletico Madrid take on Manchester has already sung the praises of the United playmaker in the build-up to the tie, with the first leg of course set to kick off tomorrow night in joined his manager Ralf Rangnick at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game and was asked about outlet Marca translated his quotes, which made it clear just how good Bruno thinks the 22-year-old forward by James Gill – Danehouse/Getty Images“I don’t know what the problem is, I know that Joao has a lot of quality and great potential, he’s very young,” said Fernandes when asked about Felix, who has just four goals in all competitions ahead of the United clash.“Sometimes we forget his age and don’t understand that he’s in a growth phase. When Atlético bought him he had barely done six months at Benfica, it shows the quality of the player, because not many clubs can afford that, and there were several clubs interested.“His quality has to be used for the team. We all know what Diego Simeone is asking for, but he can also defend. I think he needs freedom, but I can’t comment much on that. From what I saw at Benfica, he’s a player who can reach a level that few others can. He has all the possible qualities to reach it. “He will do it at Atlético or elsewhere. I don’t speak about football with him. I don’t think that among us players we should talk about football. He’s a very good guy and has a lot of quality. At Atlético or elsewhere, he will succeed because of the good head he has on his shoulders.”Photo by PATRICIA DE MELO MOREIRA/AFP via Getty ImagesFelix is one of a number of threatening forwards United could face tomorrow night, as well as Antoine Griezmann and Luis could potentially put himself in the shop window with a big performance over the two legs here and he was actually linked with United in 2019 before joining signed Bruno from Sporting in January 2020 and these are the big games that the Portuguese playmaker likely came to Old Trafford to play Bruno can outshine his international teammate, that would give United a springboard to getting a positive result in a hostile atmosphere tomorrow Topics Have something to tell us about this article? Perhaps the striker now wishes he had amid his reported fall-out with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. The 23-year-old has not started a league game since being taken off after an hour in September’s loss to rivals Real Madrid. That hasn’t stopped him from showing his quality over the past few months, though. Felix scored three goals from the bench in his final two La Liga outings ahead of the World Cup break before netting one and assisting two for his country in Qatar. READ MORE Manchester United can pursue Cody Gakpo alternative The attacker impressed many with his displays but he will discover what Simeone made of his performances on Thursday when Atletico face Elche in their first game back. But club CEO Marin Gil suggested that Felix might not care what his manager thinks. "I'd love him to stay, personally, but I don't think that's the player's idea,” he said. Simeone has been playing a cryptic game when answering questions about Felix’s future. "No one is indispensable and things will be as they have to be,” he said last week when asked about Felix, before adding "[Felix] is very important for us. He has had a good World Cup, he participated in goals with the importance that the coach gave him". With Cristiano Ronaldo gone, United have been linked with a number of forwards including Felix. Cody Gakpo is moving to Liverpool after some United interest while Darwin Nunez also moved to the Merseyside club over the summer. Neither had many pre-existing connections with anyone at Old Trafford - Felix has two. Both Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were key parts of Portugal’s run to the World Cup semi-finals. Fernandes had a stellar tournament with two goals and three assists, the playmaker setting up Felix’s sole tournament goal. The Atletico star had already praised his teammate for his abilities on the field, speaking ahead of his club’s Champions League tie with United in February. "Bruno is a very, very good player. It is very easy to play with him,” he explained. “When he has the ball, he always chooses the best option, to give you a chance to score. That is why he gets a lot of assists.” Felix is clearly a fan and loves playing the United’s which would be a factor in his decision-making if the Reds came in with an offer. However, whether they do or not is a different matter. Felix’s subsequent comments may make the United hierarchy think twice “My best position is as the second forward. Playing like a No 10, with a guy in front of me.” Ten Hag needs an out-and-out goal-scorer in January and nothing less. Fernandes himself occupies the space behind Anthony Martial and so if Felix wants to play in his favoured position, he would have to oust his friend which would be unlikely. This factor could put both parties off, especially when just nine of his last 24 club goals have come while playing as a centre-forward. Felix’s praise of Fernandes may be the reason he does not join United - he would not be able to occupy his preferred role. And United will not be satisfied with his conversion rate while leading the line, either. So perhaps Felix might still not ever "hear anything". Midfielder Bruno Fernandes has already backed Portugal teammate Joao Felix to fulfil his potential amid ongoing reports linking him with a move to Manchester United. Felix, who scored one goal and grabbed two assists in four appearances for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar, is being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Reds are poised to prioritise the addition of a striker and the 23-year-old is one of the players who has been most frequently linked with solving that particular problem. United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News , are poised to head down the route of bringing in a striker on loan next month, as opposed to investing big money in a permanent addition. The club is likely to recruit a striker on a permanent basis in the summer instead. READ MORE Paul Scholes has already told United how to overcome Pep Guardiola warning Therefore, a loan move for Felix should not be considered unrealistic. The versatile forward has struggled for regular opportunities at Atletico Madrid this season, often being restricted to cameo roles off the bench, and there has been plenty of speculation to suggest that the Spanish giants would be prepared to let him go. United are in desperate need of adding a fresh source of goals to their ranks and Felix, despite having only scored 15 times since the start of last season for Atletico, could add a freshness to Erik ten Hag's attacking options. If Felix was to secure a loan move to Old Trafford next month, he would link up with fellow Portugal internationals Diogo Dalot and Fernandes. The latter has previously waxed lyrical about the attacker, singing his praises ahead of United's Champions League last-16 showdown with Atletico last season. Fernandes hit back at the criticism Felix was facing at the time, backing him to live up to expectation and "reach a level that few others can". "I don't know what the problem is, I know that Joao has a lot of quality and great potential, he's very young," said Fernandes, speaking in February this year. "Sometimes we forget his age and don't understand that he's in a growth phase. "When Atletico bought him he had barely done six months at Benfica, it shows the quality of the player, because not many clubs can afford that, and there were several clubs interested.
